KATONAH, NY — On Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 8:00 pm, the Great Artists in the Music Room Series continues at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts with the Caramoor Virtuosi. Tying into the fall theme of Moz(art), Artistic Director and cellist Edward Arron will lead the virtuosi in a mixed bag of seldom-heard Mozart gems including the “Kegelstatt” trio for viola, clarinet and piano (the first work ever written for such instrumentation) and the Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, K. 478, in addition to works by Beethoven and Arvo Part that were inspired by some of the most influential music of Mozart. The artists featured in this concert are pianist Gilles Vonsattel, violinist Jesse Mills, violist Nicholas Cords and clarinetist Todd Palmer.
Great Artists in the Music Room – Moz(art) Moz(art) is a three-part fall series exploring Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s more intimate and collaborative music through a beautiful selection of chamber and vocal works. The most enduringly loved composer of the Classical era, Mozart created pinnacles of the repertoire in every genre that he touched. His genius, his vision, and his prolific body of work have had a profound influence on subsequent Western art music. Featured artists are The Kuss Quartet, Caramoor Virtuosi, and The Orchestra of St. Luke’s.
About Caramoor Virtuosi The Caramoor Virtuosi joyously embody the musical spirit of Caramoor, fostering the intimacy and immediacy of chamber music, cultivating collaborative music-making, and creatively engaging audiences in the shared excitement of musical performance.
Formed in 1999, they are a fellowship of adventurous musicians who trained at Caramoor as young artists, have since built successful professional careers, and now return to Caramoor throughout the year for performances and residency activities. Led by cellist Edward Arron, Artistic Director of the Caramoor Virtuosi, this extraordinarily accomplished group of artists seeks to expand the chamber concert experience with diverse, challenging and engaging programming. Virtuosi concerts are enhanced by the unique atmosphere of camaraderie, fun and fulfillment that has evolved through long personal and musical relationships.
