CARAMOOR'S FIRST FALL FESTIVAL
CONTINUES WITH
FAMILY FUN AT THE CARAMOOR CAVALCADE

OCTOBER 3, 2009

FAMILY EVENT FEATURES PERFORMANCES FOR ALL AGES
IN CARAMOOR'S SPANISH COURTYARD AND MAGNIFICENT GARDENS

Katonah, NY - Michael Barrett, General Director of Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, has announced an afternoon full of music, both zany and serious, and storytelling when Family Fun - Caramoor Cavalcade takes place throughout the afternoon of Saturday, October 3, 2009 as part of Caramoor's first Fall Festival.

"Family Fun - Caramoor Cavalcade offers perhaps the most informal opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy good music and good times in relaxed settings throughout Caramoor," said Mr. Barrett.  "The three events during the afternoon range from hilarious to serene and present a terrific opportunity for adults to introduce young people and youngsters to delightful live music experiences at affordable prices.

The afternoon begins at 1:00pm with Polygraph Lounge in the Mediterranean-style surroundings of the Spanish Courtyard at the center of the historic Rosen House at Caramoor.  The off-the-wall antics of the wild duo of Rob Schwimmer and Mark Stewart will fascinate audiences with their stage full of homemade instruments and original music.

The action moves to the Tapestry Hedge in Caramoor's magnificent gardens at 2:30pm and Fun With Words and Music.  Bassist Robert Black and friends offer new spins on classic stories retold through the words and music of Jon Deak, including such tales as The Ugly Duckling, Eyeore Has a Birthday, and Lucy and the Count (Love Dreams from Transylvania).

Caramoor Cavalcade concludes with Music in the Air, a scintillating program of French music in Caramoor's lush Sunken Garden beginning at 4:00pm.  Flutist Mindy Kaufman, violist Leslie Tomkins, viola, and harpist June Han will perform: Ibert's Two Interludes for flute, viola, and harp; Ravel's Sonatine (arr. for flute, harp and viola); Debussy's Syrinx (for solo flute); and Debussy's Sonata for flute, viola, and harp.

Tickets
Tickets for Caramoor Cavalcade are $15 and may be purchased online at www.caramoor.org or by calling the Box Office at 914.252.1252.  Special arrangements may be made for groups of 16 or more.  Contact Matt Scarella at 914.232.5035 ext. 266.

Fall Festival
Caramoor's Fall Festival continues in the evening at 8:00pm with jazz giant Chick Correa in a rare solo appearance in the Venetian Theater.  The internationally acclaimed opera diva, Sumi Jo, will bring the Festival to a vibrant close in the Music Room of the historic Rosen House on Sunday afternoon, October 4 at 4:00pm, in recital with Will Crutchfield, Caramoor's Director of Opera, accompanying on piano.

ABOUT CARAMOOR
Caramoor is the legacy of Walter and Lucie Rosen, who built their summer home - now known as the historic Rosen House at Caramoor - and filled it with their treasures.  Walter Rosen was the master planner for the Caramoor estate, bringing to reality his dream of creating a place to entertain friends from around the world.  Their musical evenings were the seeds of today's Caramoor International Music Festival.  Realizing the pleasure their friends took in the beauty of Caramoor - the house with its art collection, the gardens, and the musical programs on summer evenings - in 1946 the Rosens established a public charity to open Caramoor to the community.

Lucie Rosen survived her husband by seventeen years.  During those years, she expanded the Music Festival: the Spanish Courtyard was used as a setting for musical events, as it is today, and, under her direction, the great stage of the Venetian Theater was built.

Caramoor is a Garden of Great Music where audiences are invited to come early, explore the beautiful grounds, take a tour of the Rosen House, visit the gift shop, enjoy a pre-concert picnic, and discover beautiful music in the relaxed settings of the Venetian Theater, Spanish Courtyard, Music Room of the Rosen House, and the magnificent gardens.  With its unique heritage, Caramoor remains a place where magical summer days and nights are shared and enjoyed by thousands. "Caramoor is the loveliest Festival of them all." - The New York Times
