For The Africa Project, Béla journeys to Africa to explore the little known African origins of the banjo. This pioneering collaboration with some of the continent's greatest musicians resulted in an award-winning documentary and recording, Throw Down Your Heart.

Following the concert, families will gather on the lawn for a brilliant fireworks display – ONLY AT CARAMOOR!

The Aulos Ensemble, the peerless baroque band on period instruments, is joined by the phenomenal Dominique Labelle for a celebration of Handel's vocal and instrumental work. Included are a suite from the Water Music, an oboe concerto, Handel’s Aviary, a group of arias evoking nature and the trilling sounds of birds, and more.

Donizetti's heartwarming comedy is the latest of the familiar Bel Canto classics to get a fresh look at Caramoor. Star tenor Lawrence Brownlee takes on the classic role of Nemorino for the first time anywhere, with returning Caramoor favorites Georgia Jarman as Adina and Marco Nisticò as the quack doctor Dulcamara. As usual, our public can expect the unexpected, with alternative music the composer inserted into later revivals of the opera.

Conductor Michael Barrett and the Orchestra of St. Luke's perform Prokofiev’s masterpiece of music and storytelling, the tale of Peter, who outsmarts the dangerous wolf. Eric Satie's brief and zany Sports and Divertisements, portrayed by Michelle Ellsworth and Stephen Goldstein, kicks off this afternoon concert, exploring the musical worlds of tennis, golf, yachting, and even the picnic.

Created and hosted by Caramoor's Family Program Designer Katie Kresek, A Peter and the Wolf of Their Own introduces very young children to the magic of musical storytelling in an engaging and interactive program for families. Joined by clarinetist Richard Mannoia, (teaching artist, New York Philharmonic & Carnegie Hall) and pianist Jihea Hong-Park (teaching artist, New York Philharmonic), the trio will invite children (and parents!) to participate in an active exploration of selected instrument families as well as providing an opportunity to use the musical concepts that composer Sergei Prokofiev drew upon in order to create the beloved classic orchestral work Peter and the Wolf. The program will feature opportunities for children to imagine, move, dance, sing, act, and even do some composing for the trio of musicians to perform right there on the spot! Created specifically for Caramoor families, A Peter and the Wolf of Their Own will promote active listening and be a thrilling and unique concert-going experience for all!

The last and grandest opera Rossini composed for his native Italy, Semiramide, spearheaded the Rossini revival in the heyday of Sutherland and Horne. A new generation of stars is now ready to be measured against its demands. Angela Meade makes her Caramoor debut as the Babylonian queen, opposite Vivica Genaux, Lawrence Brownlee, and Daniel Mobbs. Caramoor's production includes the dramatic death scene Rossini added for Paris, reconstructed by Philip Gossett. Opera in concert, with English supertitles.
