CARAMOOR CLASSICS FALL 2007 SERIES BEGINS
OCTOBER 27 & 28 WITH CARAMOOR'S RISING STARS

Katonah, NY - Caramoor Classics, a series of three concerts appropriate for families including children ages 8 and up, begins on the weekend of Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28 with performances featuring Caramoor's acclaimed Rising Stars.

Now in its sixteenth year, the Rising Stars program is led by Peter Oundjian, Caramoor's Artistic Advisor, who searches for young musicians with immense talent, personality and musicality.  Each year Distinguished Artists work with the Rising Stars performers in an intensive week of rehearsals culminating in two performances featuring both Rising Stars and Distinguished Artists. This year's distinguished artists are: Donald Weilerstein, Co-director for Rising Stars, violin; Atar Arad, Distinguished Artist, viola; Marcy Rosen, Distinguished Artist, cello. The Rising Stars are: Sun-Mi Chang, Lily Frances, Stefan Jackiw, violins; Mark Holloway, viola; Dmitry Kouzov, cello; Jeewon Park, piano

On Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 pm the Rising Stars program will be Mozart's Piano Trio in E Major, k. 542; Britten's String Quartet No. 3, Op. 94; and Sextet No. 1 in B-flat Major, Op. 18 by Brahms.

The second Rising Stars program will be on Sunday, October 28, at 4:00 pm, and will feature Haydn's Piano Trio in G Major, Hob. XV25 (Gypsy Rondo); Bloch's Quintet No. 1 for Piano and Strings; and Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13.

The final autumn Caramoor Classics performance will feature the Escher String Quartet, Caramoor's 2007-08 Ernst Stiefel Quartet-in-Residence, on Saturday, November 17, at 7:30 pm.  Their program is Mozart's Quartet in D minor, K. 421; Zemlinksky's Quartet No. 2, Op. 15 and Beethoven's Quartet No. 13 in B-flat Major, Op. 130.

Caramoor Classics performances take place in the magnificent 200-seat Music Room of the House Museum, the former residence of Caramoor's founders, Walter and Lucie Rosen.  These programs are less formal than other Music Room events and include comments from the artists about the programs

About Caramoor

Caramoor is the legacy of Walter and Lucie Rosen, who built the great house and filled it with their treasures.  Walter Rosen was the master planner for the Caramoor estate, bringing to reality his dream of creating a place to entertain friends from around the world.  Their musical evenings were the seeds of the annual summertime Caramoor International Music Festival, as well as the Fall and Spring musical programs held in their former home, now the House Museum.  Realizing the pleasure their friends took in the beauty of Caramoor - the house with its art collection, the gardens, and the musical programs - the Rosens established a Foundation to open Caramoor to the public in perpetuity.

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is located at 149 Girdle Ridge Road, Katonah, New York.
