Volunteer Fair to be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 2-4 pm

Katonah, NY - Area residents who are interested in and enjoy music, visual arts, and/or decorative arts are invited to volunteer at the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts.

A Volunteer Fair will be held in the Music Room of the House Museum at Caramoor on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  Individuals who are interested in volunteering, have a few hours to spare each week, and a desire to spend time in a beautiful setting among people with shared interests, are encouraged to attend.  Refreshments will be served.

"We're looking for people who are enthusiastic and interested in working with the public as well as behind the scenes," says Merceds Santos-Miller, Manager of Caramoor's House Museum.  "We are seeking volunteers with all levels of skills and accomplishments to pursue opportunities in several areas."

Docents are sought to lead tours of the House Museum for both adults and children, especially during busy weekends. Twenty rooms in the rambling Mediterranean-style villa, which was the summer home of Caramoor's founders, Walter and Lucie Rosen, are open to the public.

"We offer an excellent training program for docents, during which they learn about the extraordinary collection of Eastern, Medieval, and Renaissance art and antiques," says Ms. Santos-Miller. "For those looking for a lighter commitment, we need help in the Museum and Garden Shops, in the administrative offices, as greeters and concert ushers, and with the Garden Guild which runs the spring plant sales and the fall antiques show. "

In addition to working and learning in the House Museum and on Caramoor's extraordinary 90 acres of gardens and woods, volunteers receive many benefits, such as invitations to a selection of lectures and concerts.  More than 100 volunteers currently donate their time and talent to Caramoor, some for almost twenty years.

Reservations are not required for the Volunteer Fair on April 26, but they are encouraged.  To make reservations, or for additional information, call Ms. Santos-Miller at 914-232-8076.

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is located at 149 Girdle Ridge Road, Katonah, New York.
