The Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is hosting a workshop for teachers and the general public, India: Dance and Culture, on Friday, April 16 from 9 to 3:30 pm at Caramoor, Katonah, NY.

The workshop will be led by Kantham Chatlapalli, who is an Indian classical dancer, teacher and choreographer. One of Ms. Chatlapalli'sgoals is to bring greater recognition and exposure to Indian classical dance in general, and in particular to Kuchipudi, a dance from Southern India that blends mime, hand gestures, subtle facial expressions, swift rhythmic footwork, and sculpturesque body movements. Through demonstrations by Ms. Chatlapalli and a few of her young students (including a girl of 5 and a boy of 12), participants will explore the elegance and charm of Indian dance.

The workshop is open to K through 12 teachers and administrators, and to all interested parties. The day includes an optional tour of Caramoor's House Museum at 9 am, a continental breakfast at 9:30 am and buffet lunch at 1 pm. The cost for the entire day is $65. Advance registration, which isrequired by April 9, may be made by phoning (914) 232-5035,ext. 242.
