Volunteer Job Descriptions & Responsibilities
Rosen House Greeters
Rosen House Greeters will be assisting with our Open Houses at the Rosen House. On weekends in the mornings and 1 to 2 hours before Venetian Theater and Friends Field concerts we are inviting visitors to have a brief self-guided walkthrough of select open rooms of the Rosen House completely free of charge.
- Rosen House Greeters may be posted in front of the Rosen House to direct people into the house for Open House days.
- Inside the Rosen House, will be in the hallways to be friendly and point people in the right direction. There will be staff present to help orient you and there will also be a docent scheduled to assist with answering questions from guests.
Audience Greeters/Engagers
Audience Greeters are stationed at visitor entrance points 1 to 2 hours before events begin, either at the Welcome Table or at locations where people may need assistance in wayfinding.
- Often, Audience Greeters are the first faces visitors will associate with Caramoor.
- They are responsible for the visible role of welcoming visitors and answering general questions about Caramoor and the day’s activities.
- If at the Welcome Table, they will hand out brochures and literature. They will also have the freedom to leave the table, show a new visitor around, and take a walk for a break. At least one person should stay at the table. 3 or 4 volunteers will be assigned to the table for each event.
- Engagers also play an important role in verbalizing our Food and Drink policies and reporting any concerns such as but not limited to suspicious behavior or medical emergencies to staff.
Ushers
Ushers will be scheduled for concerts with assigned seating as well as some general admission events. Ushers will be expected to arrive 1 hour before each event.
- Ushers are stationed inside the venue and assist audiences to their assigned seats.
- Be able to distribute concert programs.
- Must be quick on your feet and able to stand and walk for the duration of our seating time (30 – 45 minutes)
- Consult the house manager on duty for any seating questions or issues.
- Ushers also play an important role in verbalizing our Food and Drink policies and reporting any concerns such as but not limited to suspicious behavior or medical emergencies to staff.
Gardening Group
Gardeners will be very important for the maintenance of our beautiful grounds. The schedule will be once a week on a designated weekday from 8:00am – 11:00am beginning in the spring with the expectation that volunteers will assist for at least 2 hours during that time.
- As directed by staff, will assist with weeding, pruning, and watering designated areas.
- Be willing to learn as well as share knowledge of plant care, gardening techniques, and more!
- Other gardening projects may arise.
- T-Shirts, safety gear, kneeling pads, and tools will be provided.
Volunteer Expectations
All Volunteers at Caramoor are expected to…
- Regularly update paperwork and have a background check facilitated by Caramoor.
- Arrive on time for the scheduled assignment.
- Communicate personal delays or cancellations via email.
- Be warm and friendly.
- Adhere to dress code guidelines
- Treat all visitors, staff, historic areas, and grounds with respect and consideration even when you come to Caramoor as a visitor.
