November 10, 2010 Dark, full, underground pubs. Luscious, warm, lilting Mozart. What’s the connection? The Kuss Quartet.
The marriage of nightlife and classical music seems odd, almost contradictory to most people. Typically, Bach belongs in concert halls and bourbon belongs in city night clubs; however, there are those exceptional artists whose vision transcends the norm and whose parings are anything but traditional. The Kuss Quartet, celebrated for their exceptional programming and captivating interpretations of classical music, has consistently pushed the envelope by collaborating with a wide range of artists in unusual venues. In their series “Kuss Plus” at the Berlin nightclub “Watergate,” the quartet collaborates with comedians, singer, and hip hop artists. Young people come out in droves for these programs, which mix contemporary music with classical traditions. All of the hype has certainly put the Kuss Quartet on the map, making them one of the most relevant string quartets today. We can’t wait to hear them at Caramoor this Sunday!
