Prolonging Summer
September 9, 2010
On Labor Day, the grill ran out of gas. It fired right up—no problem—but when it came time to flip the chicken, the flame died—a fitting metaphor for the last day of summer. How I hate to see the season end, especially this summer, with its constant sun and wonderful music!

Luckily, this year we get a reprieve. In a few weeks the music will return as Caramoor presents its second Fall Festival, giving me a chance to re-visit summer.

On September 24 guitarist Bill Frisell brings a combination of rock, country, jazz, and blues to the Spanish Courtyard. Next, Patti LuPone performs The Gypsy in My Soul on September 25, in a solo concert that includes tunes from her Broadway career (Gypsy, Anything Goes, Evita, and Oliver!) as well as some of her personal pop favorites. The weekend concludes with The Knights, who will perform twice on Sunday: first in a 1:30 p.m. family concert (with special guest appearance by Yo-Yo Ma) and later as a chamber orchestra with Yo-Yo Ma headlining.

And that’s not all. Eventually the Fall Festival moves indoors—helping to ease the seasonal transition—with a soirée at the Rosen House and an all-Mozart concert in the Music Room in October.
