Opening Night Gala 2018

2018 Opening Night Gala

On Saturday, June 16, Caramoor celebrated the arrival of the 2018 Summer Season with our annual Opening Night Gala and Concert.

This year’s festivities honored Susie and John Freund whose generous spirit and love of music and of the beauty of the Rosen House have worked to make Caramoor the best it can be. The evening highlighted our grounds and founders including a pre-performance cocktail reception by the tapestry hedge, premium concert seating in the Venetian Theater for the evening’s concert with Audra McDonald, and an After Dark post-performance party for dessert and dancing under the stars!

An interview with composer Matthew Aucoin

At the age of 28, American composer Matthew Aucoin has already made a name for himself in the classical music world. His works have been premiered by the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, violinist Jennifer Koh, and tenor Paul Appleby, among others. Aucoin’s orchestral work, Evidence was commissioned by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and he conducted the premiere in 2016. It is set to make its New York premiere here at Caramoor on June 30th with Ludovic Morlot conducting Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

A Quartet in Residence

by the Verona Quartet, 2017–18 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence

Over the course of their year-long residence, Caramoor’s String Quartet-in-Residence spends a few weeks in the fall and spring at Caramoor preparing for their Music Room performances, working with local schools, and taking advantage of Caramoor’s grounds. The Verona Quartet will close their residency with a performance during the Summer Season, but first they share what those weeks in residency mean to them.
