An Exhibition of Sound Art, 2014–2015

Inviting guests to open their ears to new ways of listening, In the Garden of Sonic Delights, was an exhibition of sound art offering the opportunity to explore nature and soundscapes. Awaiting discovery was eight specially commissioned site-specific artworks by some of the world’s most sought-after artists working in the medium of sound. Each artist drew inspiration from their chosen location, creating work that is mindful of the natural and human-made sounds and systems already present in the environment, while engaging each site’s unique characteristics, be they acoustic, historic, architectural, or aesthetic.

Caramoor’s In the Garden of Sonic Delights artists include:

Ranjit Bhatnagar – Stone Song
Betsey Biggs – Sunken Gardens
Annea Lockwood and Bob Bielecki – Wild Energy
Stephan Moore – Diacousticon
Scott Smallwood – Coronium 3500 (Lucie’s Halo)
Suzanne Thorpe – Listening Is As Listening Does
Trimpin – The Pianohouse
Stephen Vitiello and Bob Bielecki – You Are The Sweet Spot

Following its 2014 debut, In the Garden of Sonic Delights shifted from an exhibition spanning across Westchester County to an opportunity to explore sound and nature at Caramoor and Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture.
