Intellectual content for the passionate chamber music lover!
Introducing a new musical engagement opportunity for our Membership family.
Through three virtual meetings this fall, dive into recordings by three former Ernst Stiefel String Quartets–in–Residence and engage with the quartets about their relationships with the works.
Caramoor’s Listening Club is $200 for the series, per household.
This fee covers the cost of the Quartets’ time as well as Caramoor’s technical production costs. To purchase tickets you must be logged in to your Caramoor account. Please note this ticket purchase is not a charitable contribution and does not count toward Membership.

Voices of Defiance
The Dover Quartet’s Voices of Defiance presents pieces of passion, hope, and resilience whose beauty contrasts the dark moments in history through which they were written. Hear about the Quartet’s experience recording these powerful works from Viktor Ullman, Shostakovich, and Szymon Laks.
Monday December 7 7:00pm
The Pacifica Quartet’s latest album celebrates three contemporary female composers: Shulamit Ran, Jennifer Higdon, and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. The Quartet discuss the process of commissioning and collaborating on these works, living with the pieces, and commemorating the works with this album.
How does the Listening Club work?
Moderated by Kathy Schuman (Caramoor’s Artistic Director), and similar to the traditional book club model, each participant will purchase and listen to that month’s Listening Club recording prior to each virtual club meeting.
You will receive information from the Quartet on what to listen for and you are encouraged to post your questions here on the online portal in advance.
At each virtual meeting of the Listening Club, participants will access a live video discussion between Kathy Schuman and the Quartet taking a deeper dive into the recording and answering your submitted questions.
