CARAMOOR CLASSICSFall 2010 Spring 2011A series of concerts in the Rosen House Music Room, which presents artists participating in Caramoor’s mentoring programs: Rising Stars, Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence, and Vocal Rising Stars. Local middle and high school students are invited to attend at no charge as a part of our Student Strings program. Caramoor Classics concerts are appropriate for families and will often include comments by the artists about the program. Good music requires good listeners, these concerts are recommended for children 8 and above. The brilliant young musicians from Caramoor's mentoring programs - Rising Stars, Bel Canto Young Artists, Vocal Rising Stars and the Ernst Stiefel String-Quartet-in-Residence - perform in a program of scintillating, youthful works by Mozart. It's illuminating to hear performances by Mozart's peers-in-age. Now in its nineteenth year, the Rising Stars Program is led by Artistic Director Pamela Frank, who searches for young musicians with the talent, personality, and musicality to benefit most fully from this program and places them in ensembles for an intense week of rehearsals and coaching sessions, culminating in two exciting public performances. Pam Frank is assisted by Distinguished Artists: Atar Arad and Ralph Kirshbaum, who mentor and coach the young musicians and perform with them in the ensembles.

Following its superb 2009-2010 residency at Caramoor, the Jasper String Quarter is the first ensemble in the history of the Ernst Stiefel Quartet-in-Residence program to be invited to extend their residency a second year. Continuing their tradition of presenting probing programs, the Jaspers return to the Music Room with Schubert’s divine Quartettsatz, Beethoven’s final Razumovsky quartet (Op. 59, No. 3), and Aaron Jay Kernis’s second quartet, whose last movement is based on a double fugue inspired by Op. 59 No. 3. |

Now in its third year, Caramoor’s Vocal Rising Stars, in collaboration with New York Festival of Song, continues its vital mentoring program devoted to shaping the next generation of vocal talent. The week-long residency culminates in two public performances of Spanish Gold—a program exploring the rich variety and distinctive rhythmic vitality of the often overlooked tradition of Spanish song.
