Selections from Six Adagios and Fugues (arr. W.A. Mozart, K. 404a) Goldberg Variations (arr. for string trio by Dimitry Sitkovetsky)

Of all Bach's works for a solo instrument, none is more private or personal than his Goldberg Variations. The Aria and 33 variations were written on commission to help pass the time during Count Keyserlingk's fits of insomnia, and performed by a house harpsichordist named Goldberg, who may have been a student of Bach. This performance features the rarely heard transcription for string trio by violinist Dmitri Sitkovetsky.

In the final years of his rich and productive life, J.S. Bach set about fashioning a musical will and testament in the form of a "great Catholic mass". The resulting masterpiece, called by H.G. Naegli "the greatest musical artwork for all times and all peoples", stands as an exultant summation of Bach's entire life's work.

By long tradition, the Caramoor Virtuosi is the resident ensemble for the closing week of the Festival.
