CHINESE ARTS AND CULTURE Students experience an in-depth, multi-sensory introduction to Chinese culture.
Where in the world are dragons good luck?
What stone is carved with sand and water?
What lowly, small creature makes silk? |
THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:
- Tour of the Rosen House's collection of extraordinary Chinese art, including silk wallpapers and jade sculpture
- Performance of Chinese music on ancient Chinese instruments by musicians born and educated in China
- Introduction to the ancient tradition of brush painting using bamboo brushes and Chinese ink
- Traditional Chinese tea ceremony including history and tea tasting
BEFORE THE VISIT: Teachers receive a packet of materials about China including: laminated images of art from Caramoor's collection; articles on Chinese music, painting, and tea; legends of mythical figures; symbols and calligraphy; vocabulary list, and a map of China.
