FALL 2006

GREAT ARTISTS IN THE MUSIC ROOM
FOCUS ON SCHUMANN
Robert Schumann (1810-1856) personifies the image of the German Romantic artist. His volatile emotional life found musical expression in his two alter egos: Florestan, the brash, fearless, public exemplar of the free spirit, and Eusebius, the private poet, nearly overcome by his own pathos. Both sides of Schumann was explored as we performed his works throughout the fall, in the context of his personal life (Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms), and his musical influences (Bach and Mozart).
