DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Development participates in institution-wide strategic planning, operational management, board relations and budget forecasting.  S/he develops and directs fundraising strategies to raise $4+ million annually from contributed sources for annual operating as well as special gifts for endowment and capital needs to meet the demands of a growing organization. Utilizing an approach of relationship-building and impeccable interpersonal skills, the Director of Development will be the principal interface with Caramoor's many donor constituencies. S/he must have the ability to manage a prospect system and to plan timing of and be successful at closing major gift solicitations. Must be an innovator with strong supervisory, organizational, planning and communication skills and also possess a superior sense of judgment and protocol. Capital campaign experience a plus.

The Director of Development serves as a key liaison to the Board of Trustees, including staffing the Board's Development Committee and participating in the staffing of the Nominating, Budget and Executive Committees.

Working collaboratively with the Chief Executive, the Director of Development will be responsible for:
• Creating and implementing an annual fundraising plan;
• Supervising and providing guidance to a diversified and energetic 4+ member development team who is responsible for membership, individual giving, corporate, foundation and government grants and calendar of multiple special events;
• Strategizing and carrying out major gifts initiatives;
• Soliciting individually or as a member of a team;
• Interfacing with Trustees, especially Development Committee chair to ensure the successful involvement of volunteers in the fundraising process;
• Implementing policies and procedures to ensure accuracy of recording and reporting of contributed revenue in compliance with IRS regulations; and
• Potential future capital campaign.

Requirements:
Bachelors' degree required.  Higher or professional degrees and/or advanced fundraising certificate strongly preferred. A minimum of 10 years experience as a non-profit professional; managerial experience supervising staff teams; demonstrated comfort with and success in gift solicitation, including involving volunteers in the identification, cultivation and solicitation process; exceptional organizational, planning and leadership skills; demonstrated ability in developing successful corporate, foundation and/or government grant proposals; excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; proven proficiency using relational and prospect management computer systems; proven proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, budgets and basic accounting principles; demonstrated passion for the arts. Knowledge of classical music preferred. Working on some evenings and weekends is necessary, particularly in the summer months.
