CARAMOOR INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
presents

EMERSON STRING QUARTET

in an all-Brahms program
Sunday, July 20, 4:30pm

"America's greatest quartet" - Time Magazine

Katonah, New York - The fourth and final ensemble in the 2008 Caramoor International Music Festival's "Quartet of Quartets" series, Emerson String Quartet, will perform an all-Brahms program in the Venetian Theater on Sunday, July 20 at 4:30pm.  Their program will include the Quartet in A minor, Op. 51, No. 2; Quartet in B flat, Op. 67; and Quartet in C minor, Op. 51, No. 1.

Acclaimed for its insightful performances, dynamic artistry and technical mastery, the Emerson String Quartet - Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer, violins; Lawrence Dutton, viola; David Finckel, cello - has amassed an impressive list of achievements which include a brilliant series of recordings exclusively documented by Deutsche Grammophon since 1987; eight Grammy® Awards including two for "Best Classical Album," an unprecedented honor for a chamber music group; three Gramophone Magazine Awards, and performances of the complete cycles of Beethoven, Bartók and Shostakovich quartets in major concert halls throughout the world.  The ensemble is lauded globally as a string quartet that approaches both classical and contemporary repertoire with equal mastery and enthusiasm.  For three decades, the group has collaborated with such artists as Emanuel Ax, Misha Dichter, Leon Fleisher, the Guarneri String Quartet, Thomas Hampson, Lynn Harrell, Barbara Bonney, Barbara Hendricks, the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, Paul McCartney, Menahem Pressler, David Shifrin, Richard Stoltzman and the late Mstislav Rostropovich, Isaac Stern and Oscar Shumsky.

TICKETS

Tickets for Emerson String Quartet are $17.50, $25.00, $32.50, and $40.00 and may be ordered by calling the Box Office at 914.232.1252 or online at www.caramoor.org

This performance is also a Caramoor Al Fresco event, offering audience members the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the concert from the picnic grounds for only $9.00 per ticket.  An ideal way to introduce family audiences to great music, the remaining Al Fresco event will be a concert featuring the Caramoor Virtuosi on Sunday, July 27 at 4:30pm.

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is located at 149 Girdle Ridge Road, Katonah, New York.

ABOUT CARAMOOR

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is the legacy of Walter and Lucie Rosen, who built the great house and filled it with their treasures. Walter Rosen was the master planner of the Caramoor estate, bringing to reality his dream of building a country home to showcase his decorative arts collection and to entertain friends from around the world.  The Rosens' musical evenings were the seeds of the International Music Festival of today.  Realizing the pleasure their friends took in Caramoor - the house with its art collection, the gardens, and the musical programs on summer evenings - in 1946 the Rosens gave Caramoor to the public as a center for music and the arts.
