Music conservatories are rigorous and can at times be overwhelming; do you find that a school environment motivates you? Do you find it challenging? Yes, I get a lot of motivation from my school, the New England Conservatory. The whole environment is very charming; the faculty members are inspiring, and students are very supportive. I love it, which is probably why it’s my seventh year there.
You have been tremendously successful from a very young age. Have you enjoyed all of the opportunities that you’ve had to travel and perform? Has the success made your life more stressful? I definitely enjoy every opportunity to travel and perform, since I love to see and feel the difference between countries and people. It is very interesting to me. I don’t see myself as very successful, so I’m not particularly stressed out. To me, playing music is just like living life—it’s a continuous journey.
How do you choose to relax? I like to take a walk outside; eat good food; listen to Bach; sleep. Why is classical music still relevant today? Classical music will always be relevant because it is meaningful and alive and it will always have certain things that everyone can relate to.
What inspires you? Nature, great music, great musicians, life.
