July 21, 2010 A recent New Yorker blog entry calls Caramoor an operatic paradise, crediting Will Crutchfield’s direction and praising the talented Norma cast. Calling Angela Meade’s performance in the title role “astounding,” music critic Alex Ross describes her “blazing high D” and “rich, rounded” lower tones. The New York Times, too, issued a glowing review of the production, making me regret missing it.
If you were one of the lucky ones to witness “the Norma of the future,” as critic Anthony Tommasini put it, post a comment and let us know what you thought. If you missed your chance, don’t despair. Tickets are still available for Donizetti’s Maria Di Rohan, another Caramoor bel canto production that promises to please. Conducted by Will Crutchfield, the July 24th performance features Takesha Meshé Kizart, soprano; Luciano Botelho, tenor; Scott Bearden, baritone; and Vanessa Cariddi, mezzo-soprano.
