Spring Cleaning
May 11, 2010
Caramoor's founder, Lucie Rosen, was once asked how she cleaned the 16th- century velvet curtains that hung in the Music Room. Noting that there was no such thing as dry cleaning back in the Renaissance era, Mrs. Rosen responded that she didn’t worry about cleaning the lavish drapery. "Curtains just hung for hundreds of years in the palaces for which they had been made," she explained.

If the Rosen House drapes could hang a few centuries without a good scrubbing, I figure the curtains in my living room can last about a decade or so without much attention. So I plan to go light on spring cleaning this year and instead focus my energies on going out more. I'm looking forward to Caramoor's Dancing at Dusk series, starting on June 16 with a Guy Davis concert, because the shows are appropriate for kids. Think of all the money I’ll save on dry cleaning and babysitting bills this summer!
