Caramoor International Music Festival introduces DANCING AT DUSK Affordable, late afternoon events for families beginning Wednesday, June 3rd
Katonah, New York - Children of all ages are invited to dance to live music, interact with musicians, and discover musical instruments and styles, when Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts introduces Dancing at Dusk on Wednesday, June 3rd at 5:00pm. At only $20.00 per car, regardless of how many are in the car, Dancing at Dusk offers an affordable late afternoon and evening opportunity for area families. "We hope our neighbors from the tri-state area will find this to be a relaxing, informal, and joyous way to introduce youngsters to music," said Michael Barrett, Caramoor's Chief Executive and General Director. "Bring a picnic, spread out a blanket on Friends Field at Caramoor, and enjoy great music together."
On June 3rd Dancing at Dusk celebrates "Bluegrass, Country Song, and Dance" with kid's songs that inspire sing-a-longs, foot-stomping, and inevitable giggles such as "Froggie Went a Courtin," "Mole in the Ground," and "Old Dan Tucker." In this concert, songsters Colin McGrath and Jason Harod will explore their favorite traditional bluegrass and country songs that were either written for kids or have a funny bone in them that appeals to young audiences.
Dancing at Dusk, hosted by Caramoor's Family Program Designer, Katie Kresek, continues on the first Wednesday of each month during the 2009 Caramoor International Music Festival. On July 1st the Texas-style fiddling of The Doc Wallace Trio will play rollicking ragtime, jazz, swing and pop, including "Cotton Patch Rag," "Tennessee Waltz," and "Sweet Georgia Brown." The Eternal Tango Trio will invite children and families to move to the accented rhythms of the many styles of the tango on August 5th.
Tickets Tickets for Dancing at Dusk at only $20.00 per car may be purchased at the Caramoor Box Office, 914.232.1252 or ordered online at www.caramoor.org.
About Caramoor Caramoor is the legacy of Walter and Lucie Rosen, who built their summer home - now known as the historic Rosen House at Caramoor - and filled it with their treasures. Walter Rosen was the master planner for the Caramoor estate, bringing to reality his dream of creating a place to entertain friends from around the world. Their musical evenings were the seeds of today's Caramoor International Music Festival. Realizing the pleasure their friends took in the beauty of Caramoor - the house with artworks spanning the centuries from B.C.E. to the 20th-century, the gardens, and the musical programs on summer evenings - in 1946 the Rosens established a public charity to open Caramoor to the community.
Caramoor is often described as "a Garden of Great Music" where audiences are invited to come early, explore the beautiful grounds, take a tour of the Rosen House, visit the gift shop, enjoy a pre-concert picnic, and discover beautiful music in the relaxed settings of the Venetian Theater, Spanish Courtyard, Music Room of the Rosen House, and the magnificent gardens. With its unique heritage, Caramoor remains a place where magical summer days and nights are shared and enjoyed by thousands. "Caramoor is the loveliest Festival of them all." - The New York Times
