THE ROSEN HOUSE AT CARAMOOR HOSTS LECTURE/RECITAL: MOZART: THE MIND AND MUSIC OF A GENIUS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29TH

Katonah, NY - A special lecture/recital about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, universally acknowledged as the greatest child prodigy and greatest genius in music history, will be offered in the Music Room of the historic Rosen House at Caramoor on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 11:00am. Mozart: The Mind and Music of a Genius will feature concert pianist and psychiatrist Dr. Richard Kogan.
Dr. Kogan will explore the impact of Mozart's complex personality on his creative output and will discuss whether Mozart might have suffered from bipolar disorder, Asperger's Syndome, or Tourette's disorder. Dr. Kogan will illuminate the discussion by playing some of Mozart's most glorious music. This lecture is made possible, in part, by donations received in memory of Ellie Siesel.
Richard Kogan, M.D. is a graduate of Juilliard, Harvard College, and Harvard Medical School. He is a psychiatrist in private practice in New York City and is affiliated with Weill-Cornell Medical Center as Director of its Human Sexuality Program. He has done groundbreaking work on the connection between music and the mind in a series of lecture/performances that explore how the psychiatric illnesses of the great composers influenced their creative output.
An optional light lunch will be offered in the Summer Dining Room immediately following the lecture.
Tickets Tickets are $18 for the lecture/recital only or $33 for the lecture/recital and lunch. Call the Caramoor Box Office at 914.232.1252 or visit www.caramoor.org.
Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is located at 149 Girdle Ridge Road, Katonah, New York.
About Caramoor Caramoor is the legacy of Walter and Lucie Rosen, who built their summer home - now known as the historic Rosen House at Caramoor - and filled it with their treasures. Walter Rosen was the master planner for the Caramoor estate, bringing to reality his dream of creating a place to entertain friends from around the world. Their musical evenings were the seeds of today's Caramoor International Music Festival and Fall and Spring Indoor seasons. Realizing the pleasure their friends took in the beauty of Caramoor - the house with artworks spanning the centuries from B.C.E. to the 20th-century, the gardens, and the musical programs on summer evenings - in 1946 the Rosens established a public charity to open Caramoor to the community.
