Calpulli Mexican Dance Company celebrates the Mexican and Mexican-American community in the USA through its rich stories in dance and music. It creates choreographic and musical works that honor rich traditions from Mexico’s diverse ethnic groups and historical eras through Calpulli’s unique artistic interpretation. Based in New York City, the company tours the USA, designs arts-in-education programs in the schools, and leads its donation-based community music and dance classes across the tri-state area of NY, NJ, and CT. Artistic Director Alberto Lopez, Music Director George Saenz, and Teaching Artistic Grisel will guide the festive afternoon.
The word “calpulli” is an Aztec word from the Nahuatl language; pronounced “call-pool-lee” it means clan, big house, and family. We are a calpulli of dancers, musicians, and teachers.
